David Huerta

SEIU President

David Huerta is the president of SEIU California and SEIU–United Service Workers West (USWW). Since joining SEIU in 1996, he has focused on improving the lives of working families and advocating for immigrant communities. He led the Justice for Janitors campaign, organizing thousands of janitors to strike for better wages and benefits—an effort that transformed the labor movement and elevated the power of immigrant workers nationwide. President Barack Obama recognized his leadership by naming him a National Champion of Change. Under his leadership, USWW has expanded significantly, including organizing security officers across Silicon Valley. He has helped pass legislation addressing wage theft and workplace sexual violence, and supported the creation of the Ya Basta Center, which assists janitors impacted by abuse. On June 6, 2025, he was arrested while observing ICE raids in Los Angeles, prompting widespread public outcry and protests.
