The Power of Perseverance: Belonging & Advocacy: Chicanx Latinx Alumni in the UC System A New Narrative of UC Chicanx Latinx Alumni

Civic Engagement & Advocacy

The purpose of this panel is to share knowledge and process of how the UC Chicanx Latinx Alumni Association (UC CLAA) organized itself over 8 years to be the first affinity group to be recognized by the UC system in 150 years. In this workshop we would like participants to think about how they would organize themselves on their campus and in their communities to address the inequities that exist in our educational institutions. We argue that educated Latino alumni play a significant role in our new campus and community movements. We are also planting an idea of a united front across UC, CSU, CC and private institutions.
